Put an asterisk next to the line in "Beer Never Broke My Heart" about diamond rings tearing Luke Combs apart. His 20-month engagement to longtime girlfriend Nicole Hocking culminated with an Aug. 1 wedding date in Florida.
Addendums aside, "Beer Never Broke My Heart" was the theme of the happy couple's celebratory wedding cake. It's shaped like gigantic beer can and reads "Nicole & Beer Never Broke My Heart."
"Yesterday was the best day of my life. I got to marry my best friend. I love you @nicohocking, here's to forever," Luke wrote on Instagram when revealing that the big day had come and gone in spite of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
"Yesterday was the most special day!!,"Nicole adds in a separate post. "I'm so happy to spend the rest of my life with you! Although we wish would could have had every single one of our family & friends there, we can't wait to celebrate with everyone next year!"
The Instagram post only shows one side of the cake. As it turns out, it's designed like a Miller Lite can.
"My all-time favorite beer - Miller Lite - sent us an awesome groom's cake in honor of our wedding day," Luke said in a press release. "I've been a fan of Miller Lite for years and truly appreciate all they did to make Nicole's and my day that cool."
If these two weren't so adorable, there'd be an easy joke to tell about how Luke and his country music peers really can make anything about beer.
The couple announced their engagement in 2018 after two years of dating. It seems pretty clear to anyone following them on social media that they have something pretty special. Their relationship predates Combs' meteoric rise to fame which has made him a contemporary to Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood and other established stars.

During their relationship, Luke has joined the Grand Ole Opry and scored eight straight No. 1s on the country airplay charts. Nicole, an employee of BMI Nashville, is the subject of her new husband's finest work as a songwriter, "Beautiful Crazy."
