Kacey Musgraves and Willie Nelson will share the stage during the 2019 CMA Awards. It's a special performance for a few reasons. It's a collaboration between a country legend and one of the genre's most celebrated singer-songwriters. It also marks the first time Nelson has performed on the CMAs since 2012. But, for Musgraves, the performance is also a full circle moment.
The two Texans, who previously collaborated on "Are You Sure" from Musgraves' 2015 album Pageant Material, will perform "Rainbow Connection" at the 53rd annual CMA Awards. As shown during Good Morning America's exclusive announcement of the collaboration, Musgraves has a history with the song. GMA co-anchor Lara Spencer introduced a video of Musgraves performing "Rainbow Connection" at 9 years old.

"Rainbow Connection" was written by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher for the 1979 film The Muppet Movie. The song, originally performed by Kermit the Frog (voiced by Jim Henson), has been covered multiple times throughout the years. Nelson recorded the song for his 2001 album Rainbow Connection.
Musgraves' Amazon Christmas special The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show will debut on Nov. 29.
The 2019 CMA Awards will open with an all-star medley, featuring hosts Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton performing with Tanya Tucker, The Highwomen, Terri Clark, Sara Evans, Martina McBride, Jennifer Nettles, Tanya Tucker, Crystal Gayle and Gretchen Wilson.
The 2019 CMA Awards take place on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. You can tune in to the awards at 7 p.m CT on Nov. 13 on ABC.
