Fans are clamoring for any details they can get about the much anticipated — and much delayed — conclusion to Yellowstone. And actors have been throwing us a few scraps from the dinner table.
Those hoping for a sunshine-and-rainbows conclusion to the gripping Western drama series may be disappointed, however. Star Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, thinks the series finale will "probably be beautiful and epic" but she's "not sure it will be happy." And Luke Grimes forebodingly said that he's not getting too attached to his character, Kayce Dutton.
Reilly discussed her somewhat grim predictions in a behind-the-scenes featurette that appears on the Blu-ray and DVD release of "Yellowstone" season five, part one.
"The main theme of protecting and sustaining this way of life in this land is the bottom of everything," she says. "So I don't know which way it's going to go but we're in season five, and who knows what's in store."
She adds that these predictions are just that: predictions. She hasn't seen the script for the second half of season 5, and production has been halted amid the ongoing Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists strikes in Hollywood.
Co-creator Taylor Sheridan doesn't share details about storylines with actors ahead of time. It's undoubtedly his way of preventing a leak similar to the one that befell Spider-Man due to the notoriously loose-lipped Tom Holland.
Reilly says she doesn't mind the anticipation.
"We're all sort of beholden to the vision of the storyteller and we serve the story," she said. "Who knows what's going to happen? I find that exciting as an actor."
Reilly also says that the series finale will see a "coming home to roost" of the Jamie-Beth-Rip triad.
"There is something that is under the surface that will one day, I'm sure, come. And she's probably certain that she will lose [Rip]," Reilly reveals.
