Premiere: David Frizzell, Mary Sarah Celebrate 40 Years of 'You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma'

David Frizzell and Shelly West's classic duet "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma" hit No. 1 in 1981. The love song (and Sooner State tribute), written by Larry Collins and Sandy Pinkard, was featured in the Clint Eastwood action comedy Any Which Way You Canthe sequel to 1978's Any Which Way But Loose.

Now, Frizzell is celebrating 40 years of the beloved song with 25-year-old country traditionalist, Mary Sarah.

"'You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma' is one of those songs that has truly stood the test of time," Frizzell tells Wide Open Country. "It was a lot of fun recording this version with Mary Sarah who brought a fresh, new approach. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do"

Sarah tells Wide Open Country she was honored to be a part of the song.

"The best way I could describe working with David Frizzell is joyous!! I am so honored to be the other half on this iconic song," Mary Sarah tells Wide Open Country. "Every moment, from the day we met to getting to record together, has been nothing but amazing. He and his wife are truly so down to earth and the sweetest of people. It's fun to make music, but to make music with great and kind souls like them is even more amazing!! I am so proud and honored to be a small part in shining light on an incredible and iconic song."

"You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma" was one of several duets recorded by Frizzell and Shelly West, who had her own No. 1 hit with "Jose Cuervo."

You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma Lyrics:

There's a full moon over Tulsa,
I hope that it's shining on you
The nights are getting cold,
In Cherokee County.
There's a Blue Norther passing through
I remember green eyes and a ranchers daughter
But remember is all that I do
Losing you left a pretty good cowboy,
With nothing to hold on to
Sundown came and I drove to town,
And drank a drink or two
You're the reason God made Oklahoma,
You're the reason God made Oklahoma
And I'm sure missing you,
I'm sure missing you
Here the city lights out shine the moon
I was just now thinking of you
Sometimes when the wind blows you can
See the mountains,
And all the way to Malibu.
Everyone's a star here in L.A. County,
You ought to see the things that they do
All the cowboys down on the Sunset Strip
Wish that they could be like you
The Santa Monica Freeway,
Sometimes makes a country girl blue
You're the reason God made Oklahoma,
You're the reason God made Oklahoma
And I'm sure missing you.
I work 10 hours on a John Deere tractor,
Just thinking of you all day
I've got a calico cat and a two room flat,
On a street in West L.A.
You're the reason God made Oklahoma,
You're the reason God made Oklahoma.
And I'm sure missing you,
I'm sure missing you
