Final 'Yellowstone' Episodes Land Official Release Date

Plus: the rumored Matthew McConaughey-led sequel series has been given a name.

The "Yellowstone" conclusion finally has a release date — the back half of Season 5 officially premieres in November 2024.

It's a much longer wait than fans had expected. Before the Hollywood strikes, before the drama with star Kevin Costner, the highly-anticipated "Yellowstone" finale was slated for a November 2023 release.

Paramount also greenlit two new spinoff series — "1944" and a series set in the present currently titled "2024." Both series are produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.

In May, it was revealed that the immensely popular Paramount Network series "Yellowstone," created by Taylor Sheridan, would conclude after its fifth season. Prior to this announcement, Paramount had disclosed that the fifth season would be divided into two segments. The initial eight episodes were broadcast from November 2022 to January 2023. However, the series has faced delays in resuming production due to both a writers' strike and an ongoing SAG-AFTRA actors' strike. The writers' strike was resolved in September, while the actors are still picketing.

"Within five years, we grew 'Yellowstone' from a hit U.S. cable show with five million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions - and, we're just getting started," said Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. "On the heels of '1883' and '1923's' success, our new planned spinoffs, '1944' and '2024,' will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon - thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan."

In December, news surfaced that Kevin Costner, a prominent figure in "Yellowstone," would be departing from the series during its fifth season. This decision was attributed to his commitment to the ambitious two-part Western film, "Horizon," which would significantly limit his availability for "Yellowstone." The initial installment of "Horizon" is set to hit theaters in June 2024, with the second part slated for release in August.

"1944" and "2024" are the latest in a string of spinoffs created by Sheridan. While plot details for both series remain sparse, it is rumored that Matthew McConaughey will star in "2024."

"2024" will also feature crossover characters from "Yellowstone" and is set to air after the Season 5 conclusion.
