'Yellowstone' Star Brecken Merrill Asks for 'Kind Thoughts' for Onscreen Horse Following Health Scare

"If you could spare a kind thought for him I know he’ll feel the love."

Brecken Merrill, who plays Kayce and Monica Dutton's son Tate Dutton on Yellowstone, recently shared an update on his character's onscreen horse Storm (named Lucky in the show) after the horse experienced a health scare. The actor shared a short clip of the horse laying in a sunny field and grazing happily, but according to Merrill, the animal was in grave danger just days before.

"Storm (Tate's horse Lucky on Yellowstone) had a rough weekend," Merrill wrote. "He suffered a bout of colic and almost crossed the rainbow bridge. He's doing much better today, but if you could spare a kind thought for him I know he'll feel the love."

Colic is a symptom of abdominal pain in horses usually caused by intestinal problems. The condition can be fatal.

The comments of the post were filled with well wishes from fans of the show. One fan wrote, "Sending healing wishes for your buddy, Storm." Another commented, "Feel better Storm! We look forward to seeing you on Yellowstone this season."

Storm will hopefully have enough time to fully recover before he steps back in front of the cameras as Tate Dutton's trusty horse once again. Unfortunately for Yellowstone fans, they likely have a long time to wait before all their favorites are back on their TV screens for season 5. The season has yet to finish production, thanks in part to the Hollywood writing strikes. There was also controversy over whether Kevin Costner would return for the second half of the season. Either way, it's been confirmed that season 5 will be the last for the original Yellowstone show.

Merrill has starred on the show since its premiere in 2018.
