Hear Trisha Yearwood Collaborate With Kelly Clarkson on 'Workin' on Whiskey'

Trisha Yearwood's latest cut f Every Girl, out Aug. 30, matches the high standard set by top 25 hit "Every Girl in This Town." The new song, "Workin' on Whiskey," teams Yearwood with Kelly Clarkson for their own spin on a classic country trope—forgetting heartache by drinking straight liquor.

Yearwood's powerful vocal performance pairs well with songwriters Dave Thomson, Patricia Conroy and Jessica Mitchell's moving lyrics. Mitchell recorded her own less-rocking yet equally moving version in 2016.

It's one of at least two album cuts featuring Clarkson. She also appears on the song "Tell Me Something I Don't Know." Yearwood's first country-specific album since 2007 also features Patty Loveless as guest vocalist on the Ashley McBryde cover "Bible and a .44." There's also cameos by Don Henley ("Love You Anyway") and Yearwood's husband Garth Brooks ("What Gave Me Away").

"Workin' on Whiskey" Lyrics

Never loved the way that I love you
You left a mark like an old tattoo
And I don't know what I'm gonna do
Without you
Now these walls are the only thing
That keep the world from caving in
And stop my heart from crumbling
Without you
And every time I think I've got you gone

I start seeing things, I shouldn't see
Wanting things I shouldn't be
And wrestlin' with the memories
That won't let me go
I've tried and tried to give you up
Once you've had the strong stuff
Nothin' else will be enough
So I'll be workin' on the whiskey

Waitin' on the day to break
So I won't have to feel this way
And maybe I will smile one day
Without you
The more I think I'm moving on

I start seeing things, I shouldn't see
Wanting things I shouldn't be
And wrestlin' with the memories
That won't let me go
I've tried and tried to give you up
Once you've had the strong stuff
Nothin' else will be enough
So I'll be workin' on the whiskey, yeah yeah

I'm cryin' tears I shouldn't cry
I'm prayin' for an answer why
You're not here, here tonight

Oh I'm feelin' things I don't wanna feel
Findin' I'm not made of steel
And wrestlin' with the memories
That won't let me go
I've tried and tried to give you up
Once you've had the strong stuff
Nothin' else will be enough
So I'll be workin' on the whiskey, yeah yeah
I am
