As usual, CMA Fest introduced fans to brand-new material, such as a Keith Urban-aided rendition of "Old Town Road" and the Chris Young and Lauren Alaina duet "Town Ain't Big Enough." Yet no big reveal in a four-day string of surprises grabbed nearly as much attention as Miranda Lambert's new, self-described "country punk-rock" stomper, "Locomotive."
Lambert's snarling cross between cowpunk and Johnny Cash's rockabilly origins debuted on Saturday (June 8) during her set at Nissan Stadium, keeping a promise for a new song she made on Thursday at her pet adoption charity MuttNation's annual Mutt March.
It comes across as a love song for Lambert's husband Brendan McLoughlin and a middle finger to critics of their whirlwind romance. As a punk rocker should, Lambert gets her point across with humor. The line "he gives me wings" might be literal, because she's "sweet tea sippin' / On my front porch sittin' / While my hubby fries chicken ..."

It's a positive and fun song disguised in a studded, safety-pinned leather jacket. Instead of wanting to run over her detractors with said locomotive, Lambert seems content living her best life and exceeding others' low expectations.
"I chose it for CMA Fest because it's total country punk-rock," Lambert told the Tennessean before taking the stage. "It's just fun. It really is a reflection of who I am right now ... you'll know when you hear it."
There's no word yet on whether new song equals new album.
