Lainey Wilson Gets Creative Onstage After Lightning Strike at Billy Bob's Texas

Lainey Wilson kept on singing after lightning struck again.

Lainey Wilson showed some hillbilly hippie ingenuity on Friday (Sept. 8) after a lightning strike took out the sound equipment at legendary Fort Worth honky tonk Billy Bob's Texas.

"So clearly, we are having some technical difficulties... I don't even know if y'all can hear me," Wilson said from the stage after the issues first arose.

Instead of simply waiting it out as the problem got solved, Wilson grabbed a megaphone and kept on singing. With the help of a stage hand, Wilson performed an acoustic cover of Keith Whitley's "When You Say Nothing at All" to the crowd's delight.

Wilson also brought Country Music Hall of Famer and diligent concert goer Randy Travis onstage for a surprise cameo.

"It ain't every night you get to bring out the legend [Travis] nor sing through a megaphone but we covered both of those last night at [Billy Bob's Texas]," Wilson wrote on social media. "Thank y'all for your patience while we waited for the power to kick back on...guess ya could say lightning likes us these days."

During a July 15 Luke Combs' World Tour stop in Charlotte, NC that featured Wilson as its opening act, she went acoustic after severe weather caused technical issues.

Wilson's headlining set at Billy Bob's Texas came just days after she led all artists with nine CMA Awards nominations. The "Heart Like a Truck" singer-songwriter made history by becoming the first act to lead all nominees in their first two years on the ballot. Last year, Wilson picked up six nods.

The latest verification that he's one of country music's newest superstars, first-time nominee Jelly Roll came in second with six nominations. Hardy and Combs also got their names called often, with both netting four nominations apiece.

ABC will air the 57th annual CMA Awards live on Wed., Nov. 8 from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena at 8 p.m. EST.
