Who would have thought that some of Texas's best BBQ was found in a grocery store? There's no surprise that Texans have a love for both barbecue and H-E-B, so it just makes sense to marry them together. And now with nineteen locations of True Texas BBQ across the state serving up chopped brisket sandwiches and peach cobbler, there's no reason why you shouldn't be enjoying a fantastic dinner during your weekly grocery trip.
Many who visit Texas wonder what the big deal about H-E-B grocery stores are. We all have our go-to grocery store, but few are as beloved as this Texas classic. The fact that the store owns a delicious BBQ chain provides one hints to the popularity of this store- it knows what Texans like. H-E-B knows how proud Texans are of their state, and it gives the state even more ways to show this pride with its many Texas-shaped items, from cutting boards to party trays to cakes.
Plus, H-E-B is loyal to its state, with no plans to expand beyond the Lone Star State no matter how many requests it gets from Texas natives who have moved out of state. The fact that the company went so far as to create a BBQ chain just shows that H-E-B knows its audience.
Each True Texas BBQ restaurant is open from 11 am- Sold Out, which can vary depending on how hungry the grocery crowd is. All barbecue in the restaurant is smoked Texas oak wood, some smoked for up to 14 hours. Order by the pound or as a plate, and make sure you grab a few napkins to wipe the bbq sauce off your chin.
Natural brisket, either fatty, lean or chopped and sauce, as well as natural smoked turkey breast and sauced natural pulled pork are all available by the pound while natural smoked chicken halves, natural sausage links, and St. Louis spare ribs, either a half or full rack can be purchased "by the each".
If you are wanting to eat in the restaurant or bring home a complete meal, try going for one of the meat plates or order yourself a sandwich. Served either regular or large, True Texas BBQ serves up fresh pulled natural pork sandwiches, sliced natural turkey sandwiches, chopped and slices natural brisket sandwiches, and sliced natural sausage sandwiches. Add a small side and a drink for only $3.00. There are even loaded potatoes with chopped meat, sour cream, cheese, and green onions if you are feeling like stacking your meal inside a baked potato.
Speaking of sides, True Texas BBQ serves up all your favorites including coleslaw, potato salad, brisket beans, creamed corn, mac & cheese, green beans, and cornbread. Yum!
And let's not forget about dessert! The BBQ restaurant makes their own banana pudding, chocolate oreo pudding and peach cobbler for hungry guests.
One location even features a drive-thru. The True Texas BBQ in San Antonio at Loop 1604 and Bulverde Rd lets hungry guests order and pick-up via a convenient drive-thru window. Now that's a Texas treat.
