Chick-Fil-A Polynesian Sauce: Go Tropical With This Copycat Recipe

Any visit to Chick-Fil-A is guaranteed to include three things: chicken, incredibly friendly service, and condiments. Even people who enjoy their chicken nuggets without sauce can't resist the array of delicious dipping sauces at Chick-Fil-A. You can choose honey mustard, BBQ sauce, or their signature sauce mysteriously named simply Chick-Fil-A Sauce. Today we're going to be a little exotic, though. We're going on a fast food Tahitian vacation via Chick-Fil-A Polynesian sauce.

Described by the magicians at Chick Fil A as "a delicious sweet and sour sauce with a strong, tangy flavor," it's remained one of their most popular dipping sauces since it arrived in their restaurants in 1984. Now for some of the greatest news ever:  Chick Fil A sauces, including the Polynesian sauce, are available in supermarkets, Walmart, and even delivered to your door by Amazon.

But we know you. You like a challenge, don't you? You want homemade. You want some copycat fun. So how can you recreate that taste of a tropical paradise for your chicken recipes (and so much more) at home?

According to Chick Fil A's website, the packaged official Chick Fil A Polynesian Sauce contains sugar, soybean oil, water, corn syrup, corn cider vinegar, distilled vinegar, tomato paste, salt, paprika, mustard seed, modified cornstarch, beet juice, onion*, garlic*, xanthan gum, propylene glycol alginate, natural flavor, *dehydrated.

You won't need nearly that many ingredients to make this copycat recipe at home. It's especially good if you leave out the preservatives and corn syrup.


Only a few ingredients will give you a pretty darn close version of the famous dipping sauce. You'll need: 1 cup of Catalina or California French Dressing, 3 teaspoons apple cider vinegar, a pinch of ground mustard (totally optional) and 6 tablespoons honey. Simply whisk it all together and refrigerate in an airtight container for up to three weeks.

Like it a little sweeter? Add more honey. Like more tang? Go heavier on the Catalina salad dressing and ground mustard. Taste as you go and let the flavors come together.

Think outside the box! Use this sauce on hamburgers, pork, grilled vegetables, waffle fries, baked potatoes, or rice. You can also use this copycat sauce as a marinade before grilling. Add some sliced onions to a foil packet and marinate as a chicken sandwich or burger topping. Yum.
