You don't need to go to a luxury wine shop to get the best of the best. Recently Aldi's bottle of Australian Shiraz won gold in one of the world's most important international wine competition and wine lovers are jumping for joy. At only $5 a pop, this best-value Shiraz from Aldi wowed judges at The Great Australian Shiraz Challenge, beating out a $267 bottle of wine. In fact, this isn't the first year the wine impressed the judges.
The Aldi brand, One Road Shiraz, picked up a double gold at the Melbourne International Wine Competition earlier this year. To be considered in the competition, competing wines must: be commercially available, and be a Shiraz table wine. All wines must be made and available to purchase in Australia. The price for this Aldi wine in Australia is approximately $7 AUS.

This Aldi Shiraz is described as a medium bodied red wine with a clean fruit driven taste with "aromas of plum and spice ... with ripe and powdery tannins to finish"
The only drawback to this amazing Shiraz is that the wine is only available in Australia's Aldi stores. Bummer for us Americans.
