Billy Ray Cyrus' Dog Helped Introduce Him to Wife Firerose

Billy Ray Cyrus and wife Firerose told Kelly Clarkson the sweet story of how they met.

Billy Ray Cyrus and Australian singer Firerose may now be husband and wife, but more than a decade ago, they were just two strangers bonding over a dog. The couple appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show last week, where they shared the sweet story of how they met.

Firerose revealed that they first met 14 years ago after an audition.

"It's actually a funny story because I was walking out of an audition on Sunset Gala in Hollywood, and Billy's dog at the time, Tex, who was the most beautiful German Shepherd you've ever seen," said the 34-year-old,  "he was tapped into some divine purpose because we were, at the time, friends. All these years later — that was like 14 years ago — we just got married."

As Cyrus has spoken about before, that audition was for Hannah Montana, the show starring Cyrus and his then-budding teenage star daughter, Miley Cyrus. The "Achy Breaky Heart" opened up more about their first meeting to People in last November.

"Tex and I would go out there in the middle of the day and he'd take care of his business and we'd stretch and I'd think how much I missed Tennessee," Cyrus said. "On that given day, Firerose came out of the front door. There was almost a moment of, I don't know, recognition. I was like, 'This girl's a star.'"

Cyrus then offered to help Firerose with her career, and the two have been friends ever since. When the pandemic hit in 2020, they reconnected yet again by becoming songwriting partners.

Cyrus and longtime wife Tish divorced in April of 2022 after living separately for more than two years. Cyrus and Firerose became engaged in August of that year. They married on Oct. 10 of this year.
