Dilly Dog

Combine your two favorite things into one with the Dilly Dog! This fair food features a dill pickle stuffed with a hot dog and deep fried.

Ingredients
  

  • 5 large dill pickles
  • 5 hot dogs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 2 quarts Vegetable oil

Instructions
 

  • Start by using an apple corer and core of the middle of the pickle. Stuff the hot dog into the pickle and place it on a stick.
  • Meanwhile, in a large bowl combine the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, buttermilk, egg, honey, and vegetable oil. Whisk the batter together then transfer it to a drinking glass.
  • Preheat a dutch oven filled with 2 quarts of vegetable oil to 350F. Once the oil is hot, dip the dogs in the batter and carefully drop into the oil, turning halfway through cooking to ensure it is evenly cooked. It should take 3-5 minutes total to cook.
  • Remove the dogs from the hot oil and drain on paper towels or a cooling rack. Serve with mustard or ketchup.
