Willie Jones Celebrates Family & Friends on Anthemic 'Runs in Our Blood'

Shreveport, Louisiana native country singer Willie Jones' "Runs in Our Blood" is the perfect addition to any family reunion or backyard-party-with-friends playlist.

The song, from Jones' forthcoming debut album, celebrates living in the moment and serves as a reminder to let your loved ones know how much they mean to you.

"Time flies when you're having fun/ Growin' up, but we're still young," Jones sings. "Our blood runs thicker than mud/ Let 'em ride the wave just 'cause/ We turn up until the sun goes down/ We've grown up but we still run this town/ Never die, feel forever young/ 'Cause my fam knows I got love/ And it runs in our blood."

The "Runs in Our Blood" music video features a backyard get-together and a party out in the country complete with pickup trucks, good friends and dancing.

Fittingly, the inspiration for the anthemic tune came from spending quality time with family.

"I went back down south from Los Angeles to spend Thanksgiving with my family. Ever since I lived in Los Angeles, I haven't been home for a good minute. When I was down there, I had the best time with all of my cousins, aunts, uncles, sisters and so on. We laughed, we drank, and shared old stories about the past and how we actually grew up," Jones told Digital Journal.  The first week back in Los Angeles, I linked up with my brother from another mother and producer extraordinaire Sean Cook at his studio in Van Nuys for our second time ever working together. Going into the session, I wasn't even planning on writing a song. I wanted to write an R&B/rap type song for pitch. Sean started playing more of a hip-hop drum loop, and we tried to write to that for a while and I wanted to do something more. Sean then picked up the guitar and started messing around with some ideas and the melody and lyrics of the song just started to flow out me."

In 2012, the country artist appeared as a contestant on The X Factor USA, where he wowed Simon Cowell with his cover of Josh Turner's "Your Man." (He was mentored on the show by Demi Lovato.)

Jones previously joined Cameron Dallas and Shawn Mendes on the Magcon Tour and appeared as part of Cameron Dallas' Netflix show Chasing Cameron.

The rising artist, who grew up freestyle rapping with friends and winning the high school talent show with his rendition of country classics, is making his own way in Nashville with serious songwriting chops and a low, twang-y voice reminiscent of Randy Travis.

Jones has recently been splitting his time between Shreveport and Los Angeles to work on his forthcoming debut album.

In addition to "Windows Down," the country music singer has released "Bachelorettes on Broadway," "Down For It," "Whole Lotta Love," "Runs in Our Blood" and "Back Porch."

Willie Jones' new single, the "Down For It," remix featuring hip-hop artist T.I., is out on Nov. 20.
