If there's anyone who can tackle a good ole' southern recipe, it's Trisha Yearwood. Her cooking show has gone on for 16 seasons, you'd be a fool to not trust what she's whipping up.
The country music singer turned (basically) full-time cook invites viewers into her Nashville home where she films the popular "Trisha's Southern Kitchen," sharing comfort food recipes and inviting friends and family over to enjoy it. Not only does she pass her doing some home cooking from her and Garth Brooks' vacation home, but she also shares stories that give you a peek into her life. Man of her recipes can be found on her Food Network page, from which here are 10 from some of her highest rated southern (or Georgia cooking) dishes.
1. Chicken Tortilla Soup
Chicken tortilla soup is great when you are craving something tasty, but even better in the colder winter months. The flavors of fajita seasoning oozes through all the ingredients in this soupy yet crunchy Trisha Yearwood recipe. Imagine throwing this in a slow cooker. So flavorful! Sour cream can definitely be option, but topping the soup with it will definitely cool it down some.
2. Chicken Broccoli Casserole
If you're hesitant to try anything with broccoli, because broccoli, don't be with this casserole. Combining ingredients of chicken breast, cream of chicken soup, rice and tons of cheddar cheese (to name a few), you'll hardly even taste broccoli in it. This casserole is healthy without feeling like you're eating something healthy.
3. Sweet and Saltines
No meal is complete without some dessert, and this easy recipe is sure to be equal parts sweet and salty. Trisha's sweet saltines only require 4 ingredients. Yep, all you need are some saltine crackers, chocolate chips, butter and light brown sugar. This would even make for a good appetizer.
Need a festive dessert? Snickerdoodles are always a hit, and Trisha Yearwood's recipe will melt in your mouth. Though she only uses 2 tablespoons of cinnamon, this recipe can easily be changed to make it more cinnamon-flavored. The flavors would also make for a good cheesecake base. 5. Chicken Pie
A potluck favorite, a chicken pie is always an easy, meaty dish to throw together. Most of the time goes into the baking part of the process, which gives you time to relax. Combining ingredients of shredded chicken, chicken broth and cream of chicken soup, this is the ultimate chicken dish. The pie crust will give it a crispy exterior to hold in the warmth of the interior.
6. Breakfast Sausage Casserole
Skip the ordinary waffles and put in a little more effort for breakfast this weekend. Trisha's breakfast sausage casserole will fill ya up for the day, heavy on the pork sausage and bread. You don't need a bunch of sides for this one item dish. It even oozes sharp cheddar in every bite.
7. Asparagus Bundles
Move over bacon-wrapped jalapeños, there's a new side dish in town. The bitter yet sweet glaze of the asparagus compliments the bacon, and creates a hit to be paired with all main items. You probably don't even need more veggies to accompany it. Just throw on some extra bacon and black pepper, and it'll fill you right up. Trisha's recipe doesn't call for Parmesan, but wouldn't that be nice sprinkled on top?
8. Banana Pudding
?If you loved munching on vanilla wafers growing up, this one's for you. This banana pudding recipe give ice cream a run for its money. It's even a great option to take over for special occasions such as Easter or Thanksgiving. Combining the flavors of vanilla and banana, the banana pudding is a sweet reminder of childhood.
9. Skillet Almond Shortbread
Have a brunch crew to feed? You have to try Trisha's skillet almond shortbread. Everyone loves shortbread! Not only is the recipe easy, but many of the items can be substituted for a different flavor profile. Replace the almonds with pecans or top it with your favorite fruits. This is basically a southern-style cookie cake recipe, so don't forget the cooking spray.
10. Charleston Cheese Dip
This dish is cheese, cheese and all cheese. With cream cheese, cheddar cheese and Monterey Jack cheese, you know you're eating something that is unhealthy but worth it. Pair with a salad recipe and you may just feel better about it. This Trisha Yearwood recipe would actually make for a great dish to take to a bbq too.
