At the beginning of Monday night's episode of The Voice, John Legend's fellow coaches poked a bit of fun at the singer for not being able to secure a steal in the Knockout round yet. It wasn't for lack of trying, but singers have been continually choosing other coaches. Legend was bound and determined to earn a steal on Monday night, and it came in at the nick of time at the end of the episode.
For the final performance of the night, Team Gwen singers Corii, Kara Tenae and Kristen Brown took the stage to compete. Corii leaned into her pop-punk side with Paramore's "Ain't It Fun," Tenae went pop with Jojo's "Leave (Get Out)," and Brown went country with Martina McBride's 2003 single, "This One's For the Girls."
All three singers impressed the coaches, but only one would be crowned the winner of the Knockout by Stefani. It was Tenae's impressive and dynamic cover of Jojo that earned the winning title. Legend told Tenae that she looks like a star and belongs on the stage.
The judges also enjoyed Brown's emotional performance, which found her singing to a little girl in the audience. Brown admittedly became a bit emotional and missed a few notes during the song, but coaches Niall Horan and Stefani appreciated her heart.
Brown wasn't crowned the winner, but that doesn't mean she had to leave the competition. While Brown was thanking Stefani and talking about going home to her vocal students, Legend his his button to steal her.
"Reba better watch out; I've got a country artist on my team too, and she's good," Legend said after the steal.
The Voice airs on Monday and Tuesday nights on NBC.
