At this point on The Voice Season 24, the coaches only have a few spots left on their teams, so they are all waiting for that powerhouse singer to appear onstage and blow them away. That happened during the last blind audition of Monday night's (Oct. 9) show when Nini Iris performed "I See Red" by Everybody Loves an Outlaw.
The singer — who hails from the country of Georgia but now lives in New York — showcased her impressive vocal range and rock flair with the cover, and she received chair turns for all four coaches. Niall Horan strongly praised her performance, calling it "strong, powerful, commanding." He also named her the potential winner of the competition. At the end of his pitch, he resorted to begging for Iris to join his team.
Reba McEntire, John Legend and Gwen Stefani then gave their best pitches — Stefani said Iris' performance was "Grammy" worthy — but Horan didn't give up the fight. When it was time for the singer to choose her coach, Horan turned on the charm, getting down on one knee while offering his "Team Niall" sweatshirt. The fact that Iris was once a One Direction super fan also helped his case.
In the end, Iris chose Horan, who was ecstatic to welcome his new team member. Legend, however, wasn't impressed by Horan's antics, and he chalked up his fellow coach's win to the shameless charm he employed during his pitch.
"Niall started out with the kind of rambling man pitch style where he would just say more and more things, but he's starting to hone it," Legend said after the audition. "He's doing the Casanova, 'I'll woo you, I'll get on my knees.' These young ladies are susceptible to Niall's wooing, and I don't like it."
