'The Voice': Gwen Stefani Begs Talented Team Member to 'Stick to the Plan' as Coaches Attempt a Steal

"I am your coach. I am your favorite."

Tuesday night's episode of The Voice ended in a shocking turn of events for one Team Gwen singer who ended up with more options than she, and Coach Gwen, had bargained for. It all started with the three-way Knockout performance between Tanner Massey, Chechi Sarai and Rudi.

Massey put on an emotional performance of Shawn Mendes' "In My Blood," which resonated with Wynonna Judd in the rehearsals. Sarai then showcased her forte for soul on Jackson 5's "Never Can Say Goodbye," and Rudi sent a chill over the audience with Silk Sonic's "Smokin' Out the Window." All three artists put on impressive performances, and Stefani was proud of all her singers. Although she was conflicted by the choice, she reassured the artists that she had a "plan."

For the official winner of the Knockout, Stefani chose Massey. The 19-year-old was clearly taken aback by her choice, as he looked in genuine disbelief after the announcement.

"Tanner has a lot of dynamics, and he has a very cool rasp," Stefani said after the segment. "He is super young, but able to channel the emotion of the song flawlessly. I just think he's really special."

After Massey left the stage, it was time for the rest of Stefani's "plan" to unravel. She and the other coaches let Sarai walk away without a steal or a save. However, when Rudi stood up to say her goodbyes, something surprising happened. After she thanked Stefani, the coach not only hit her button to save her, but John Legend and Reba McEntire also put their hats in the ring for a steal. It was an explosive moment, and Stefani panicked a bit as she moved to keep Rudi on her team.

"I am your coach. I am your favorite," Stefani said. "What did I say? I said there is a plan; I have a plan. I feel like if you go with anyone else, I will die."

McEntire then shared her desire to bring Rudi to her team, saying she has been a fan since the blind auditions. Legend also sent a strong pitch to Rudi between Stefani's booing. Stefani gave one last try, begging Rudi to "stick to the plan."

In the end, Rudi chose to stay loyal to her original coach, Stefani.

The Voice airs on Monday and Tuesday nights on NBC.
