"The Voice" battles continued on Monday night (Oct. 23), and the gloves are already coming off — for both the contestants and the coaches. Team Reba singers Ms. Monet and Corii impressed coaches with their energetic performance of Patti LaBelle's "New Attitude," but only one could be named the winner. McEntire gave that title to Ms. Monet.
However, that wasn't the end of the road for Corii. After she thanked McEntire and was walking off the stage, Niall Horan pressed his button to steal her. He was quickly followed by Gwen Stefani, who also put her hat in the ring. It was then that another kind of battle ensued.
Corii was surprised and relieved to receive not one, but two steals, but she could only choose one coach. Stefani and Horan raised their fists to each other as they gave their best pitch to the singer.
Horan cited Corii's improvement from the blind auditions as his reason for attempting to steal her.
"I think you've got more strings to your bow than we think, and I'd be very excited to work with you," Horan said.
Stefani then pled her case, saying she could help Corii "tweak" her voice a bit.
"You've got so much charisma — it's just like how do you tame it just a little bit so that you can be that much cooler and that much more you," she said.
Although Horan tried to discredit Stefani as a liar, Corii chose the former No Doubt frontwoman in the end.
Stefani celebrated by pretending to hit Horan before running up to her new team member.
"I had to steal Corii. She just had so much power and range," said Stefani. "She's the perfect addition to my team."
Corii shared that Horan was actually her first choice of a coach, but choosing Stefani felt "organic" and right.
"The Voice" airs on NBC Monday and Tuesday nights.
