While Kansans may pine for Whataburger and Floridians are lucky enough to get the first out-of-Texas Buc-ee's this year, it seems that Oklahomans are receiving a very special treat from the heart of Texas, too. The beloved Shipley Do-Nuts announced that it is opening the Oklahoma market for franchises, and the first will open in April 2018. Shipley also announced that they plan to develop 25 units throughout the state.
Since 1936, the Shipley family has cranked out delicious donuts with the family do-nut recipe, though that's not all they do well. Also serving up pastries and kolaches, the Houston mainstay plans to reach 400 stores by 2020, with locations already in Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. You could say that good do-nuts travel far.
When it comes to donut shops, nothing is as tasty as the cake donuts from Shipley. Lawrence Shipley III, the CEO of Shipley Do-Nuts, said in a press release,
"We are absolutely thrilled to bring our famous Shipley Do-Nuts to Oklahoma. Oklahoma is a perfect fit for our company that started in 1936. We serve over 50 varieties of donuts and kolaches and we are excited to create over 300 jobs for the state of Oklahoma," said Shipley.
"Our do-nuts continue to delight customers of all ages. Our varieties remain as consistent as the freshness of the products, and although the plain glazed is by far the best seller, everyone seems to have their favorites."
With over 50 varieties of do-nuts, pastries, and kolaches, we wonder what special Oklahoma flavors will be served up in the first few stores.
