Target Begins Same-Day Delivery, But There's a Catch

Love Target, but sometimes wish you didn't have to actually go there in person? If you live in one of several cities in Florida, you're in luck. Target and Shipt are partnering to offer same-day delivery of groceries and other essential products to home shoppers in multiple Florida locations, including Tampa, Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and South Florida.

While the delivery service doesn't cover every Target aisle just yet, it does target the competition in the rapidly growing same-day grocery delivery battle with companies like Amazon and Walmart. Shipt will even deliver a customer's items within one hour, if requested.

In a release announcing the new service, John Mulligan, Target's executive vice president and chief operating officer, said,

"Same-day delivery was at the top of our list when we were thinking about ways to make shopping at Target even easier. Shipt's personalized, customer-focused approach fits perfectly with our commitment to deliver a convenient, exceptional experience and we're excited to begin offering same day service in Florida."

Shipt, with offices in Birmingham, Alabama, and San Francisco, offers annual memberships for $99, which gains members access to the Target same-day delivery service as well as delivery from other stores in more than 70 markets across the country. Target, based in Minneapolis, acquired Shipt in December 2017 for $550 million, showing the importance the retail chain is placing on delivery service.

If you don't live in one of the fortunate locations in Florida, it's okay—Target plans to expand same-day delivery to the majority of Target stores in time for the 2018 holiday season.

Shipt plans to hire more than 3,000 personal shoppers throughout Florida to be a part of the team responsible for filling each order. If you live in Florida and are interested in applying to be a Shipt Shopper, you can visit the for more information.
