Sam Hunt Makes Chart History with 'Body Like a Backroad'

Sam Hunt has just broken a huge radio airplay record with his current single, "Body Like a Backroad."

The track just shattered a 55-year-old record by spending 20 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Leroy Van Dyke's 1961 hit "Walk on By" previously held the record for a solo artist by spending 19 weeks at the top spot. If he manages to hold on to No. 1 for another four weeks, he'll tie Florida Georgia Line for the longest overall streak in history. They spent 24 weeks at No. 1 with their infamous hit "Cruise" in both 2012 and 2013.

Naturally, the news has some traditionalist country fans up in arms. Sam Hunt is known for his edgier, experimental brand of country. So his ongoing reign of the charts has many wondering what this means for the genre long term.

No matter what you're personal opinions are of Hunt, you can't say it isn't an impressive feat to beat such a longstanding record. With a new album coming soon, chances are this won't be the last time.

"Body Like a Backroad" Lyrics:

Got a girl from the south side, got braids in her hair
First time I seen her walk by, man I 'bout fell off my chair
Had to get her number, it took me like six weeks
Now me and her go way back like Cadillac seats

Body like a back road, drivin' with my eyes closed
I know every curve like the back of my hand
Doin' 15 in a 30, I ain't in no hurry
I'mma take it slow just as fast as I can

The way she fit in them blue jeans, she don't need no belt
But I can turn them inside out, I don't need no help
Got hips like honey, so thick and so sweet
It ain't no curves like hers on them downtown streets

Body like a back road, drivin' with my eyes closed
I know every curve like the back of my hand
Doin' 15 in a 30, I ain't in no hurry
I'mma take it slow just as fast as I can

We're out here in the boondocks
With the breeze and the birds
Tangled up in the tall grass
With my lips on hers
On the highway to heaven
Headed south of her smile
Get there when we get there
Every inch is a mile

Body like a back road, drivin' with my eyes closed
I know every curve like the back of my hand
Doin' 15 in a 30, I ain't in no hurry
I'mma take it slow just as fast as I can

I'mma take it slow
Just as fast as I can
(Body like a back road)
(Drivin' with my eyes closed) Got braids in her hair
(I know every curve like the back of my hand)
