Are Paula Deen's Comments About Carl Ruiz's Death Disrespectful or Funny?

Things aren't going too well for the chef that loves butter and using racial slurs. Earlier this year Paula Deen's San Antonio restaurant closed without warning, employees complained about their wages, and now, the former Food Network star was a little loose with her lips and made some "insensitive comments" after the death of Food Network star, Carl Ruiz. Yeesh, not a great year for Paula Deen.

The Run-Down

Owner of La Cubana restaurant in New York, Celebrity chef Carl Ruiz was a frequent guest on Food Network, popping up on shows like Guy's Grocery Games, Guy's Ranch Kitchen, and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Unexpectedly, Carl Ruiz passed away at the young age of 44. Food Network stars like Jet Tila (who has appeared on Iron Chef America and Cutthroat Kitchen) and Alex Guarnaschelli shared their condolences.

A few days after the chef's death, Paula Deen was on The Big J Show, which streams on KRSQ Hot 101.9, talking about her new cookbook, Paula Deen's Southern Baking: 125 Favorite Recipes from My Savannah Kitchen. During the interview, Big Jay asked if Paula knew Carl Ruiz.

"No, I'm not [familiar with Ruiz]," Deen said. "But I'm so sorry to hear that." Then went on to say, "You know, they say the restaurant business will kill ya," she said while chuckling. "No pun intended."

The clip starts around the 7:30 mark.

Some people were not having it on social media and commented on how these little insensitivities (like when she admitted to using the N-word) really show what type of person she is.

Others were opposed, saying that Celebrity Chef Paula Deen didn't do anything wrong and was making a joke and comment in light of the kitchen environment. Which way do you see it?
