Savage Garden's Darren Hayes had a truly awful thing happen to him last year. Per Instagram in April 2025, he revealed that he had suffered a truly hideous fall the month before. Hayes also posted a photo of himself with a badly swollen and bruised face. He described his grisly situation in detail in the accompanying post. Hayes also wrote an update a few days ago that is not for the squeamish.

Hayes Wrote Frankly About His Nightmarish Fall
Hayes, 53, wrote, "On March 17, 2 months to the day after my Mother passed away, I had a terrible accident. I've been trying to keep it private but my lengthy recovery period means it's easier to admit the truth. I lost consciousness - I fainted shortly after getting out of bed and collapsed 3 times, losing consciousness each time."
The traumatic physical and psychological nature of Hayes' injuries was absolutely shocking. He did not minimize in any way the seriousness of what befell him. ""The blunt force trauma was so severe it snapped my left jawbone in half. I woke up on a pool of blood, terrible pain in my left side of my head and with 9 teeth shattered...I could have died if I landed in a different position."
Per People in November 2025, Hayes said he actually broke 17 of his teeth. That is unimaginable.
It sounded like Darren Hayes had been through the mill at that time. His mom died, he learned that his dad died, he got a painful divorce, and then he took this scary tumble. But Hayes hung in there anyway.
His Condition Is Even More Complex Than First Thought
There is more distressing news for Darren Hayes, unfortunately. Writing on Instagram again on February 15, he said, "I'm fine this was before my MRI last week to check on my brain since my accident. All normal except they found skull fragments floating around my brain lol. But I'm ok. More than ok though would not repeat the last year if given a choice."
There is a picture of him in a white hospital gown standing in what appears to be a medical office. Hayes is holding a cell phone and wearing a face mask. Despite the concerning findings, he has a jaunty tone and an optimistic attitude.
After undergoing extensive testing, Hayes and his doctors apparently chalked up the reason for his multiple falls to "just stress," per People.
