Hayes took to Instagram to reveal the injury he suffered on March 17, 2025. It happened exactly two months after his mother, Judy Hayes, died in Brisbane, Australia.
"I lost consciousness - I fainted shortly after getting out of bed and collapsed 3 times, losing consciousness each time," Hayes wrote. "The blunt force trauma was so severe it snapped my left jawbone in half."

Nine of his teeth shattered. Fortunately, he was found and rushed to a local hospital in Santa Monica. There, he found out that he "could have died if I landed in a different position."
"I just wanted my fans to know why I'll be out of action for quite some time," Hayes continued. "After my jaw heals it's a long road to rehabbing my jaw function and then of course replacing my shattered teeth. I love you folks."
He then mentioned the events that have affected him recently. First, he mentioned losing his mother on January 17. Then, he mentioned his 2023 divorce from his ex-husband, Richard Cullen, as well as finding out his father was dead.
"I have had moments of deep sadness," he concluded. "But I am a survivor and I'll come back strong."
Losing Mom
Back on January 25, Darren Hayes revealed in a heartbreaking albeit heartwarming post that Judy Hayes, his mother, died on January 17, 2025.
"She was the kindest person any of us knew and everything I know about love, I learned from her," Hayes wrote.
"Right now, I don't have the capacity to have a conversation or engage in dialogue about this immense loss as I'm sure you can imagine," Hayes continued. "But as many of you who have followed my career had the opportunity to meet her, or through my work understood how much her presence in my life was the engine to my heart, please know I already feel the outpouring of empathy for my family and your appreciation for her."

At last, he concluded his message in an uplifting spirit.
"Even though she appears to have floated gently into the clouds above, our bond remains forever," Hayes wrote. "My heart is broken but I'm so grateful she is finally at peace."
