Do you remember the 2024 Grammys? Of course, there's one every year, so you might just forget—let us remind you really fast.
Miley Cyrus performed her hit song "Flowers". But, per People, she originally wasn't the most keen to do so. Thanks to her godmother, the Queen of Country Dolly Parton, though, she did.
And the way Parton convinced her is pretty darn insane. Miley Cyrus opened up to Apple Music's Zane Lowe about exactly what happened that fateful night.
She started by professing, "Dolly was just always right about stuff." Of course, I didn't know her personally, but if you look at her track record—her Imagination Library, her children's hospital and the like—I'd argue Miley Cyrus isn't wrong on that one.
"Like, she told me for the Grammys—which Bob Mackie passed—and I would've never worn Bob Mackie if it wasn't for Dolly. She knows that I wear my heart on my sleeve." She ended up wearing a stunning Bob Mackie dress that night, as she won her first two Grammys.

Dolly Parton Encouraged Her to Perform
After Miley Cyrus had had an anxiety attack in Mexico during a show, she wasn't exactly keen to grace the stage with so many eyes watching. But, in typical Dolly Parton fashion, she talked straight up to convince her.
"She was like, 'You need to just fake it'. I'm like, 'But I don't want to do it. I'm scared—do you remember Mexico?' She's like, 'Enough about Mexico!'"
She explained that the creator of Saturday Night Live, Lorne Michaels, had encouraged her to perform at the Grammys. "So then I got to Nashville and I go to see Dolly," she explained.
"And it's very interesting, cause she wanted to pick me up, which never happens. Like, 'I'll drive.' I'm like, 'Oh s***'. You know, they trapped me in the car, and she's telling me why I've got to do the Grammys. And I'm like, 'I can't—you know what happened, and I still feel like I'm in this rest and recovery mode.'"
And then Dolly Parton said one of the most on-brand things I've ever heard. "'Get your hair teased, and get a dress that you love, and you're going to forget for that moment, and you're going to step into your Hannah Montana, your Dolly Parton—you have that part, your RuPaul... you have that part of yourself."
