Miley Cyrus Shares Intimate First Live Performance of Global Hit 'Flowers'

"My birthday gift to myself..."

At an intimate, invite-only event in Los Angeles, Miley Cyrus performed "Flowers" live for the first time. Though the song was released Jan. 12 and debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the closest fans had gotten to a live version was in Disney+'s "Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions)" concert special, which hit the streaming service in March.

In clips shared by Cyrus on social media, her disco and funk-tinged pop hit gets transformed into a piano ballad that suits the formal setting. The crowd sounds no less enthusiastic to sing along to a fancier version of a global dance anthem about valuing your own worth.

My birthday gift to MYSELF this year was VERY on brand. I performed for MYSELF and sang my favorite songs including my own. First “live” performance of Flowers was to an audience full of my friends and family. Taking this song back to the seed… she sprouted sensationally. Grateful for the growth in us both. ??❤️ With Love, Miley

Cyrus wrote in the TikTok caption that the event commemorated her 31st birthday, which landed on Nov. 23.

"My birthday gift to myself this year was very on brand," she wrote. "I performed for myself and sang my favorite songs including my own. First 'live' performance of 'Flowers' was to an audience full of my friends and family. Taking this song back to the seed... she sprouted sensationally. Grateful for the growth in us both.  With Love, Miley."

Cyrus is up for six Grammy awards in 2024 including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Endless Summer Vacation and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for Brandi Carlile collaboration "Thousand Miles." "Flowers" has three nominations of its own—  Best Pop Solo Performance and as well as two of the evening's top prizes, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

"Congratulations to all of this [year's] Grammy nominees. Watching women win & rule the music industry makes me proud," Cyrus wrote on Instagram. "It's fun to be nominated & exciting to win but having my music be loved around the world is the real trophy.

"To my Smilers - I celebrate you today. Your joy is my bliss," she continued. "My team + all of my collaborators are irreplaceable & priceless pieces of this puzzle. I love you all. Thank you for making my Endless Summer Vacation so sweet."
