Marty Stuart's brand-new, acoustic cover of Crystal Gayle's No. 1 hit "Ready for the Times to Get Better" and its accompanying lyric video tease 20-song digital album Songs I Sing in the Dark.

"Ready for the Times to Get Better" was written by Allen Reynolds and included on Gayle's 1976 album Crystal.

"I love the restless wisdom in the words, and those words are shadowed by a lonesome melody that is served up from the blue side of town," says Stuart in a press release. "As the pandemic raged on, 'Ready for the Times to Get Better' became my personal theme song. I can't seem to quit playing it. Several months later, I'm still at it. The title proclaims what every soul on planet Earth undoubtable feels. It is the perfect country song and I consider it an honor to sing such words."

Details about the new digital album are scarce, though Rolling Stone reports that Stuart will debut acoustic recordings on a monthly basis.

"The title tells the story," says Stuart in a press release. "I have a long line of songs that range from obscure, originals, to old favorites from various musical worlds that I often sing to myself when I'm alone. Until recently, I had never formally made a list of all the titles. When I did, I saw in those titles so many great songs that need to be remembered and passed down.  There was a mighty congregation of names of profound songwriters whose presence and lyrics are to be cherished. And, looking into those songs I could hear the music of those brilliant musicians, arrangers, and singers who brought those tunes to life, and gave the world reason to love them. In the wake of these revelations, I was inspired to finally go to work on the idea of Songs I Sing in the Dark."

The songs were all recorded in Stuart's former home in Nashville.

Stuart joined his wife Connie Smith in the Country Music Hall of Fame after he was announced as a member of the class of 2020. They're the first Hall of Fame couple that's alive and still married. AP and Sara Carter divorced before the Hall of Fame existed, George Jones and Tammy Wynette divorced before both became members and Boudleaux Bryant passed away before he and his wife Felice's 1991 induction.

Stuart first hit the road as a teenager with Lester Flatt. The Fabulous Superlatives' leader has since won five Grammy Awards and plotted his own museum, the Congress of Country Music, in his hometown of Philadelphia, Mississippi.
