Mangoes Sold by Walmart Recalled in Several States

Importer Panorama Produce issued the recall on Aug. 28, citing that 302 boxes of size 9 mangoes "may be contaminated" with the bacteria, according to a notice published on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website.
What States Are Impacted By the Recall?
The FDA says the mangoes were sold on dates ranging from Aug. 10 to Aug. 21 in the following states:
- Connecticut
- New York
- New Jersey
- Pennsylvania
The agency also advised consumers on how to identify the recalled mangoes, saying, "The recalled mangoes are packaged in a Martina-branded case. The individual mangoes can be identified by a light blue sticker with the label Agrofepac, Produce of Mexico, and a PLU number of 4584 and UPC #07503061948050."
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled product. Consumers are advised to dispose of or return them to the place of purchase.
Anyone who believes that they have become ill should contact a healthcare provider immediately.
Health Effects of Salmonella
Salmonella is the most common form of bacterial food poisoning in the US. Each year, over a million people become ill from salmonella.
Most people develop diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps within 8 to 72 hours after exposure. Most healthy people recover within a few days to a week without specific treatment.
Life-threatening complications also may develop if the infection spreads beyond the intestines.
Salmonella infection is usually caused by eating raw or undercooked meat, poultry, and eggs or egg products or by drinking unpasteurized milk.
Mangoes Are the Latest Food Recall
The FDA Recalls Portal has added a steady stream of popular foods this year. This month alone, 28 different foods and beverages have been recalled in the US.
A recall of Whole Foods guacamole received the Food and Drug Administration's highest-risk classification on Aug. 20 due to possible salmonella contamination.
Earlier this month, nearly 30,000 pounds of beef were recalled in Texas and Florida.
The recall on Martina mangoes is the latest food recall consumers should be leery of.
