"Last Shot," a sentimental single from Kip Moore's 2017 album Slowheart, now packs even more emotion thanks to its new music video.
Lyrics about holding onto feelings of love pair well with a short film about mortality. In it, four hometown friends go from school-age pals to young adults facing the specter of cancer. One young woman in the two girls, two guys clique is laid up in the hospital. The others must come to grips with a vivid young life facing such sudden and swift danger.
Clips spanning the group's friendship establish the patient as a free spirit with a longstanding passion for both Paris, France and one of her two best guy friends. The climax of the video shows her three friends bringing Paris to her, in a sense. Such a selfless showing of friendship captures Moore's lyrical message: true love is more than a cliche.
"When we first talked about the video for this song, I felt like I wanted to tap into the deeper meaning behind it," Moore says in a press release. "How that feeling of desperation and realization that every second matters, can sometimes be the motivation you need to really take action. I've always been a big believer of living in the moment and I hope people are inspired in some way by this video to do the same."
Moore co-wrote the song with regular collaborator Dan Couch and "Dust on the Bottle" singer David Lee Murphy.
"Last Shot" Lyrics
Well, baby love's just one of those words, just gets thrown around
Like Jack and Coke, sitting on the bar when it gets watered down
So I ain't gonna say it, oh I ain't gonna lie
If you wanna known the truth, how I feel about you tonight.
If you were my last breath, I'd just wanna hold ya
If you were my last night I ever had on wheels, I woulda drive you like I stole ya
If you were my last shot, last shot of whiskey
I'd press you to my lips, take a little sip
Swirl you around and around and around
Then I'd shoot ya down.
So baby let me look at you and see just what I got
If you were my cherry stem I'd tie you in a knot
And if I could inhale you, oh baby I'd be gone
I'd be floating round high as the Colorado sky blowing smoke rings all night long.
If you were my last breath, I'd just wanna hold ya
If you were my last night I ever had on wheels, I woulda drive you like I stole ya
If you were my last shot of whiskey
I'd press you to my lips, take a little sip
Swirl you around and around and around
Then I'd shoot you down.
Last call, last chance
Last dance I was ever gonna get to take.
If you were my last breath, I'd just wanna hold ya
If you were my last night I ever had on wheels, I woulda drive you like I stole ya
If you were my last shot of whiskey
I'd press you to my lips, take a little sip
Swirl you around and around and around
Then I'd shoot you down
Then I'd shoot you down.
If you were my last breath
Well, I'd just wanna hold ya.
