Sorry Chick-fil-A, you aren't alone in releasing a new Mac and Cheese dish. KFC, the fast-food chain known for their Kentucky fried chicken and bowl food, is introducing a new menu item you have to try. Starting August 26, new Mac & Cheese Bowls will be available Original or Spicy, in KFC's $5 Fill Up line up and we are already drooling.
All About The KFC Mac and Cheese Bowl
When KFC's Famous Bowl came out sometime in the 1990s, I was instantly hooked. When I was young, there was a KFC near the dance studio I would practice at a few times a week. Exhausted from the day (and no doubt shuttling me and my siblings to our various afterschool activities), My mom would sometimes surprise us with a stop at KFC and my order was always the same: a KFC Famous Bowl. Mashed potatoes, gravy, crispy popcorn chicken and shredded cheddar cheese. It made perfect sense.
Now, almost two decades later, the Colonel has decided to add another bowl to the menu and it was well worth the wait. Crafted as a main dish, Mac & Cheese Bowls combine KFC's rich and creamy mac and cheese, topped with crispy popcorn chicken, and sprinkled with a three-cheese blend. Want to kick it up a notch? Add KFC's Nashville Hot sauce to make it a Spicy Mac & Cheese Bowl.
"Mac and Cheese has a cult-like following, and bowl food is a trend that isn't going away anytime soon," said Andrea Zahumensky, KFC U.S. CMO in a press release "So, it made perfect sense to call up a favorite side dish to the big leagues, in a way that only we could, with Mac and Cheese Bowls."
The new entrée is available as a fill-up menu selection, including a medium drink and a chocolate chip cookie for only $5.
