Kelly Clarkson Has No Plans to Return to 'The Voice' After NYC Move: 'A Weight Has Been Lifted'

"That was me saying ‘bye’ to 'The Voice'"

Kelly Clarkson says she has no plans to return to "The Voice" after her move to New York City, the shooting location for her daytime talk show, "The Kelly Clarkson Show," as both she and her kids are loving life in NYC.

The singer headed to the Big Apple to be closer to her family — her separation from them had become too much to bear.

"I've learned a lot about what I'm capable of handling, and also what you should not handle. That was me saying 'bye' to 'The Voice' and having this big move," Kelly told USA Today. "I love that family, but I was like, 'I'm struggling. I can't smile anymore. I don't feel like smiling.'"

Clarkson — originally from Forth Worth, Texas — is settling into her life as a New Yorker nicely. She's been spotted at a New York Giants game cheering on her hometown Dallas Cowboys, riding the subway, and enjoying a New York slice. She also nabbed a posh rental apartment in Rockefeller Plaza — just a stone's throw away from her new studio.

"At this point, I'm 40 years old. Mama rented something nice!" Clarkson says with a laugh. "I was like, 'I'm not living here unless it's right by the park and really nice for the kids.'"

"I'll be real honest: I thought I was making a horrible decision," Clarkson says of her move. "I knew I needed a fresh start and couldn't be in LA. I really wanted to be in Montana, but you can't really do a show from there quite yet. So I was like, 'The only other option would probably be New York.'"
So far, everything has worked out for the best.
"I genuinely love it," she says. "And I love that my kids love it."
