Jake Owen to Tee off in PGA Tournament Next Year

You know Jake Owen for his hit songs "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" and "American Country Love Song," but did you know he's also a talented golfer? The country star just received an invitation and sponsorship to the Nashville Golf Open next May.

"I am truly honored to have this opportunity to play golf with guys whose work ethic I admire so much, like my buddy Brandt Snedeker," Owen said in a statement. "I know how hard everyone works to get to play in these PGA TOUR tournaments. I'm really grateful, and I can't wait for this week in May 2018 to get here."

Owen is no greenhorn in the sport of golf. He has participated in several pro-ams in the past. In fact, he played his first tournament at the age of 15, and later played golf for Florida State University. If a wake-boarding accident hadn't ended his aspirations, he may have become a professional golfer instead of a country singer.

For the past four years, he has partnered with pro golfer Jordan Spieth for the AT&T National Pro-Am at Pebble Beach, and even won the "Arnie Award" this year. His participation in the Nashville Golf Open marks his first time competing sponsored in a professional tournament.

The Nashville Golf Open is going into its third year on the PGA Tour. Proceeds from the 2018 tournament benefit the Snedeker Foundation, which provides medical care and crisis counseling services for child victims of sexual abuse.
