California Fast food company In-N-Out is known for its famous In-N-Out burgers, thick and creamy milkshakes, hand-cut French fries, and if you happen to look closely at your Double-Double wrapper, printed bible verses on most of their paper goods. Opened in the Los Angeles suburb of Baldwin Park, California in 1948 by the Snyder family, In-N-Out has always been a part of the family. And because of that, the burger chain has always had the freedom to run the restaurant however they like, including adding bible verses to their cheeseburger wrappers.
All in the Family
Recently, Lynsi Snyder, the only grandchild of In-N-Out founders Harry and Esther Snyder spoke with The Christian Post about the fast-food chain and her own understanding of religion. From the outside, it may look like she has it all, including billions of dollars; however, that money came from loss. Her uncle, Richard Snyder, died in a plane crash in 1993 and her father, H. Guy Snyder, died of an accidental drug overdose in 1999, causing her at age 28 to become president of the company and sole owner when she turned 35.
Religion has always played a big role in the fast food restaurant. According to Lynsi Snyder in her interview with CP, "It was my uncle Rich who put the Bible verses on the cups and wrappers in the early '90s, just before he passed away," she recalled. "He had just accepted the Lord and wanted to put that little touch of his faith on our brand. It's a family business and will always be, and that's a family touch."
Shortly after his death and the death of her father, Lynsi added bible verses to the fry boats, coffee cups, and hot cocoa cups along with the burger wrappers to reflect the company's beliefs.
What In-N-Out Bible Verses are on their paper products?
John 3:16 on the Soda Cups
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Proverbs 3:5 on the Milkshake Cups
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding."
Revelation 3:20 on the Hamburger and Cheeseburger Wrappers
"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."
Nahum 1:7 on the Double-Double Wrapper
"The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him."
Lynsi plans on keeping the business in the family and passing it on to her children in the future.
