'Fargo' Season 5: A Cast and Character Guide for the Dark Comedy-Crime Drama Series

Juno Temple and Jon Hamm are among the star-studded cast of 'Fargo' Season 5.

"Fargo," the acclaimed anthology series inspired by the Coen Brothers' Oscar-winning 1996 film, returns for Season 5 on Tuesday, Nov. 21 on FX and next-day on Hulu. The show—one of the most consistently great series of the last decade—has racked up six Emmy wins since its 2014 debut. It's been three years since we've had a new season of "Fargo," and anticipation is high. The Season 5 ensemble cast is a who's-who of film and TV greats.

Set in Minnesota and North Dakota in 2019, "Fargo" Season 5 tracks the journey of Dorothy "Dot" Lyon (Emmy nominee Juno Temple, "Ted Lasso"), an unassuming homemaker whose enigmatic history unfurls when she stumbles into trouble with the law. The cast also features Emmy-winning "Mad Men" alum Jon Hamm, "Stranger Things" favorite Joe Keery and Jennifer Jason Leigh, who returns to the Coen Brothers' world for the first time since 1994's "The Hudsucker Proxy." Sam Spruell, Lamorne Morris, Richa Moorjani, David Rysdahl and Dave Foley round out the main cast.

The return of "Fargo" will deliver on the series' signature blend of dark humor, crime and, crucially, bleak Midwestern winters. The official logline for the show reads: "When is a kidnapping not a kidnapping? And what if your wife isn't yours?" Series creator Noah Hawley says this season will be more humorous than previous installments, and the main cast's comedic chops is a testament to this. "It's always a balance between how dramatic versus comedic it is," Hawley told The Hollywood Reporter in 2022. "And this is the more comedic end of the spectrum. I really love it."

"Fargo" is the movie star's TV series, known for pulling excellent performances from big-screen actors. Previous seasons starred Billy Bob Thornton, Allison Tolman, Colin Hanks, Martin Freeman, Chris Rock, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Ewan McGregor and Patrick Wilson, among others.

Here's your guide to the "Fargo" Season 5 cast and the weird, wacky characters they'll step into. Prepare for a heavy dose of Minnesota nice.
