Daniel Kinahan was taken into custody on Wednesday under an order issued by Irish courts, according to local reports.
Ireland's national police force, An Garda Síochána, confirmed that an Irish man in his late 40s had been arrested in connection with "alleged serious organized crime offenses."
While authorities did not officially name the suspect, Irish outlet RTÉ has reported that the individual is Kinahan.
Crime Boss Arrested in Dubai Over Alleged Organized Crime Links
Dubai Police described Kinahan as an "Irish fugitive for his alleged role in an international organized crime network."
Meanwhile, An Garda Síochána reiterated its stance on pursuing high-level suspects across borders.
The force said it remains "steadfast in our determination that we would pursue those allegedly involved in serious organized criminal activity, wherever they go."
Kinahan had been living in the United Arab Emirates after previously residing in Spain.
He has long been linked to a powerful crime syndicate that Irish courts have identified as a major force in international drug trafficking and firearms distribution.
The High Court in Dublin previously named him as a "senior figure" within the organization.
Authorities have also pointed to an ongoing and violent feud between the Kinahan cartel and the rival Hutch gang.
Since 2015, the conflict has reportedly been linked to at least 18 killings.
Boxing Links and Global Manhunt Intensify Pressure
Beyond alleged criminal activity, Kinahan has been a controversial figure in the world of professional boxing.
He co-founded MTK Global, a promotions company that operated between 2012 and 2022.
The company represented several high-profile fighters, including Tyson Fury, Billy Joe Saunders, Josh Taylor, and Carl Frampton.
The company faced growing scrutiny over alleged links to the Kinahan cartel. Along with accusations of money laundering, it ultimately shut down.
Kinahan also acted as an advisor to former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. He was involved in attempts to organize major bouts, including a proposed all-British fight against Anthony Joshua.
Efforts to bring Kinahan to justice have intensified in recent years. In 2022, U.S. authorities announced a $5 million reward for information leading to the "financial destruction" of the crime group or the arrest and conviction of its leadership.
His reported arrest now represents one of the most significant breakthroughs in the case to date.
