Country Rapper Shares “Awkward” Update on His Well-Being

After a wild year that included an arrest, the rapper gave fans an update in a new video that he posted on Instagram today.

Lil Nas X had a brief hospital stay in August. He was then charged with three counts of battery against a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer.

This stemmed from an incident where the "Old Town Road" rapper was seen strolling down Ventura Boulevard at 4 a.m. He was wearing only white briefs and cowboy boots. Nearby residents reported to the Los Angeles Police Department that they saw a nude man walking in the road.

When the authorities arrived, Lil Nas X, whose legal name is Montero Hill, reportedly punched an officer twice. At the time, sources said it was unclear whether he was under the influence or experiencing mental distress.

When Lil Nas X appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on April 6, the judge said he appeared "to be doing very well." He described the arrest as "aberrant from his normal conduct."

Now the rapper is speaking for himself in a new video he posted on Instagram today, June 17.

Lil Nas X Said He Felt "Awkward" Sharing an Update

In the video, Lil Nas X said he felt "awkward" giving an update on his health.

"I've been in rehab for a few months, and since then I've been, you know, back at home, whether it's in Atlanta with my family or in Los Angeles with myself and friends and whatnot, and trying to ground myself down to earth and get out of my head," the rapper said.

Back in April, Lil Nas X was granted entry into a mental health diversion program. If he continues his treatment and stays out of legal trouble for two years, his case will be dismissed. He shared that he has been seeing a therapist and a psychiatrist.

"When I got my bipolar disorder diagnosis, I feel like I had known for, like, the past few years, but I wouldn't admit to it, because I didn't want to have to take medication, and have people think differently," he shared. "I mean, I'm already, like, Black and gay, like, damn, God... come on, Black, gay, bipolar. I'm, like, living life on, like, extreme hard mode."

The Rapper Is Now Focused on "Smelling the Roses"

Lil Nas X says he is now "doing much better" and working on new material. He adds that he is focusing on "smelling the roses."

He added, "We've been through so much together, like, thank you guys for holding it down, and I love you, and all I want to do is continue to try to make you proud and make myself proud, so let's go, Dreamboy, let's go, you."
