With the news of Ed Harris begging his team to get him "the f**k" off the set of Dutton Ranch earlier this week, Cole Hauser, who plays Rip Wheeler, is talking about the "challenges" he faced during the show's first season.

Taylor Sheridan Was Not On the "Dutton Ranch" Set
Dutton Ranch is one of the many spinoffs of Yellowstone, the hit drama created by Taylor Sheridan. As Page Six reports, Hauser said "everything had changed" when production began on this new chapter of the character Rip Wheeler's life.
Sheridan wasn't in the writers' room for Dutton Ranch. This meant Hauser and the team had to work with a new team of writers and directors.
He added, "Not having Taylor there ... the only normality that we had whatsoever was [Finn Little's character], Carter, [director] Christina [Alexandra Voros], [my co-star] Kelly [Reilly] and myself."
The 51-year-old Hauser then added that the first season of Dutton Ranch had its difficulties.
"I enjoy a challenge. It certainly was a challenge," he said. "It was about putting my head down and working my ass off with what I had around me. We worked our asses off this year."
Cole Hauser Is "Proud" of the Show
Hauser added that the "outside" noise about the show wasn't "really apparent" to him when he was working on Dutton Ranch.
"We had to figure out on our feet how to really perform and tell a story," he explained. "So I'm proud of what we accomplished, and I look forward to doing it again."
As Harris explained earlier this week, a lot changed during his time on the show, particularly around his character.
"Prior to signing on for it, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was, and what my character was going to do — and that I was one of the four main characters," Harris said. "And that wasn't really the case."
Harris then added that watching the drama showed him that his character was "relatively important to the story." But it didn't feel that way during filming.
"I said, 'I'm feeling underused and inconsequential,' and they kind of went, 'Oh,'" Harris added. "I'm being told my character will have a little bit more to do [in Season 2]. I was just a little frustrated, to tell you the truth."
