Dolly Parton is bringing the holiday spirit this year. The country music legend is set to star in the new holiday movie musical Dolly Parton's Christmas on the Square, which will premiere on Netflix on Nov. 22. The streaming service has shared the trailer for the holiday flick.
Christmas on the Square will co-star Christine Baranski (Mamma Mia), Jennifer Lewis, Treat Williams, Josh Segarra and Jeanine Mason. The holiday flick, directed and choreographed by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Debbie Allen, will also feature 14 original songs by Parton.
Christmas on the Square centers on Regina Fuller (Baranski), a selfish rich woman who returns to her small town after her father's death to evict the townspeople and sell the land to a mall developer right before Christmas. However, after meeting an angel (Parton), hearing the stories of the townspeople and reconnecting with an old love, Fuller begins to have a change of heart.
Parton released her new holiday song "Christmas on the Square" just in time for the announcement. The song is featured on Parton's upcoming Christmas album A Holly Dolly Christmas, which will be released on on October 2. A Holly Dolly Christmas features performances from Billy Ray Cyrus, goddaughter Miley Cyrus, Jimmy Fallon, Willie Nelson, her brother Randy Parton and Michael Bublé. The album includes five original tracks self-written by Dolly and one song co-written with Kent Wells.
A Holly Dolly Christmas is Parton's first holiday album in 30 years.
"I figured since everybody probably wouldn't get to celebrate Christmas as usual this year, I wanted to be creative instead of sitting around at the house this summer," Parton said in a statement. "So I put on my mask, gloves and practiced social distancing, as well as all of the wonderful musicians and singers, and we proceeded to put together what I think is some of the best work that I've ever done."
The album is available for pre-order here.
