Carrie Underwood Opens Up About Her Face Injury on 'Today'

Though news outlets often mention Carrie Underwood's facial injury, concrete details about the singer's accident and recovery were not shared by Underwood herself until her recent interview with Today's Hoda Kotb. This marks her first TV interview since the incident in November.

"I didn't know how things were going to end up," Underwood said conveying the anxiety of the ordeal. She fell just outside of her home while taking the dogs out and wasn't able to successfully brace herself before her face hit a step. "It just wasn't pretty. I was (by myself). My son was asleep upstairs," she said.  She was rushed to the hospital where she received treatment for a broken wrist and a daunting 40 stitches on her face.

Of course, when speaking with a talented and busy woman like Carrie Underwood, the conversation evolved past the accident and into her new clothing line, album and a renewed sense of energy on stage, noting that something felt magically different while singing at the ACM Awards.

"When I'm singing a song, it's like I'm in the music," she said in the interview. "I'm right there living it but as soon as the song ends, I think 'Oh man, I'm just Carrie. It's like the magic ends somehow and I turn into a pumpkin in front of everyone. I'm not a center-of-attention kind of person."
