  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup, honey or agave syrup
  • 2 1/4 cups buttermilk, preferably Bulgarian-style, well-shaken
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup thinly sliced scallions, green parts only (optional)
