Blake Shelton Shares the Story Behind 'I Lived It'

Blake Shelton released his single "I Lived It" in 2017, followed by a music video for the track featuring visions of his past while going "back in time because I miss it," and leaving viewers with the taste of bittersweet nostalgia. Now, Shelton has followed up the video with a behind-the-scenes perspective on the song.

In the new "Behind the Song" video, Shelton takes fans through his daily life as a country star that greatly juxtaposes the imagery from "I Lived It." But Shelton wants to show that he's still a country boy at heart, and he's proud of his introspective track. In the clip, he takes a minute to roll down his car window to surprise a bunch of fans. It's definitely a moment worth watching the video for.

"I Lived It" was penned by Rhett Akins, Ashley Gorley, Ben Hayslip and Ross Copperman, but the song is full of lyrics that Shelton deeply relates to. The track appears on Shelton's record Texoma Shore. The album's first single was "I'll Name the Dogs," which made it to No. 1 on Billboard's country music chart in Canada and No. 1 in the U.S. for Country Airplay.

"I Lived It" climbed up to No. 5 on the Country Airplay chart, as well, a very respectable turnout for what Shelton recognizes as a nostalgic track that's almost too country for pop country radio. "It seems like a throwback...If we can still get something like that played on the radio, we might be on borrowed time here, you know?" Shelton said in the behind-the-scenes video. "I'd like to get something like that out there while we still can."

"I Lived It" Lyrics:

Daddy drove the wheels off a flatbed Ford
Flies found a hole in the old screen door
Granny said the dress that my sister wore
To church wasn't long enough

Mama poured grease in a Crisco can
Put a hundred thousand miles on a Sears box fan
Uncle Joe put tobacco on my hand where
Them yellow jackets tore me up
And I ain't making this up

Oh, you think I'm talking crazy
In a different language you might not understand
Oh, that's alright
That's just the kind of life that made me who I am
Just taking my mind on a visit
Back in time 'cause I miss it
You wouldn't know to love it like I love it
Unless you lived it
And man, I lived it

Granddaddy smoked Salems with the windows up
Drove me around in the back of that truck
We drank from the hose and spit in the cup
We all survived somehow

Them ol' Duke boys were flattening the hills
Hollywood was fake, wrestling was real
Wouldn't dream of spending that two dollar bill
From pushing a lawnmower around
I'd go back there right now

Oh, you think I'm talking crazy
In a different language you might not understand
Oh, that's alright
That's just the kind of life that made me who I am
Just taking my mind on a visit
Back in time 'cause I miss it
You wouldn't know to love it like I love it
Unless you lived it
And man, I lived it
Oh man, I lived it

Oh, you think I'm talking crazy
In a different language you might not understand
Oh, that's alright
That's just the kind of life that made me who I am
Just taking my mind on a visit
Back in time 'cause I miss it
You wouldn't know to love it like I love it
Unless you lived it
And man, I lived it
Oh man, I lived it
