'Landman' Actor Believes That Viewers Find the Show's Characters and Their Problems Relatable

Maybe you recall some of the nighttime soap operas from the 1980s. They were as popular and eagerly watched as the Taylor Sheridan-crafted dramas of today. Dynasty and Dallas, for example, focused on the family problems of two very wealthy clans, the oil-baron Carringtons of Denver and the oil-rich Ewings of Texas, respectively. Those shows were loads of fun for viewers. However, they were not especially relatable unless you owned a whopping big bank account and a regal mansion as well. That is not the case with Landman.

In fact, one of its stars, Billy Bob Thornton, recently told Fox News Digital why he thinks the show hits home with the everyday audience. He said, "Working people, I think, really relate to the struggles that the family goes through and the people who work in this industry."

Thornton Gives Enormous Credit to Taylor Sheridan

The actor feels that Sheridan has his "finger on the pulse of people." He went on to add, "What's really surprising about Taylor is that it doesn't... or that is unique about Taylor, is that he seems to understand all people because this is an international hit." Furthermore, he mentioned, "Landman is a worldwide phenomenon, and I think what's different about this show is that most of the shows stick to what they are. If it's a drama, it's drama. If it danger, like a 'Lioness,' it is the danger."

Nevertheless, with Landman, Thornton observed that the content is more varied and all-inclusive. He explained, "But in 'Landman,' you have emotion and drama and humor and absurdity and danger. You have all of it. You know, and maybe I think that appeals to people, and plus, it's the cast of people who just are who they are."

There Is Also an Exceptional Cast

The actors in Landman also make the drama what it is. Andy Garcia, Michele Randolph, Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Jon Hamm, and Billy Bob Thornton himself are what draw viewers. Their skill at portraying their characters in a realistic, multi-dimensional way is highly compelling.

Andy Garcia commented, "Well, it starts with the quality of the writing and the ensemble that he's chosen to execute his words, you know, and then you have the design of the show, the photography, direction. But it all starts from the storytelling and Taylor's words and the way he builds a season."
