You Can Buy the World's Best Champagne at Aldi's

The more and more I hear about the awards Aldi receives for their alcoholic beverages, the more I want to head over to the discount supermarket chain rather than the fancy wine shop down the street. Recently their whiskys wowed the crowds at the 2018 Scotch Whisky Masters competition. And not too long ago their $5 Shiraz and Rosé wine took home medals as well.

At the International Wine and Spirits Challenge, the chain's Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut was crowned one of the best champagnes in the World. The bottle, a very dry champagne from France won a Silver Outstanding medal beating out pricier bottles of the bubbly. The Aldi champagne is made with partner, Champagne house Philizot et Fils.

A blend of chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier make up this champagne, which has been aged in cellars. This isn't your average glass of cheap bubbly. You know, the kind that gives you a pounding headache after sipping just a glass or two.

According to Decanter magazine the silver medal winner boasts a tasting score of 91 and includes hints of baked apple, brioche and peach flavors with a decent acidy and creaminess. One taster even states, "In my (honest) opinion, one of the very best, if not THE best value champagne in the UK today. Staggering quality for such a reasonably priced, tasty and sophisticated fizz."

The Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut wasn't the only Aldi brand to accept an award at the competition. Aldi's Crémant Du Jura 2015 won a silver medal in its category, with hints of biscuits and apple skins. The sparkling wine is the perfect accompaniment to a cheese and meat platter.
