Gillian Turnbull

Gillian Turnbull had always liked country music, but once she heard Trisha Yearwood’s “She’s in Love with the Boy,” she morphed into a die-hard fan. She was so crazy about country, she ended up doing a PhD in it, along the way hosting roots music radio shows, joining a collective to start a roots and country festival in her hometown of Calgary, and writing about music for Hazlitt, BC Musician, and No Depression (a collection of her No Depression columns comes out in February 2016). One of the most exciting things to happen to her was sending Trisha and Garth Brooks questions to answer for the upcoming PBS documentary Loretta Lynn: Still a Mountain Girl. She lives in Toronto, teaches at Ryerson University, and edits the magazine Canadian Folk Music.
