There's no denying that every single person in America has their favorite grocery store. It doesn't matter that it takes twice as long to drive to it as the grocery store across the street. Last year Florida grocery store Publix and New York's Wegmans tied for the top spot, however this year there is only one clear winner: Wegmans. Founded over 100 years ago in New York, Wegmans boasts 98 locations in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Virginia with almost half of all of their stores in the state of New York.
Did you ever watch the hit television show, The Office? The show, which was set in Scranton Pennsylvania would commonly mention Wegmans as their grocery store.
According to Market Force, Wegmans won with a 77% loyalty mark, making it America's favorite grocery store. It was a close race; only one point above second place. Interested in learning how other grocery chains did? Here's the top ten:
10. Sam's Club
The member's only store owned by Walmart comes in at number 10. Most of their products are sold in bulk and the store offers brands like Member's Mark and Simply Right. The store utilizes self check-out options as well as mobile orders.
9. Harris Teeter
Founded in Charlotte, North Carolina, the supermarket features an express lane which customers may order their groceries online and pick them up at the store. Their largest store is 100,000 square feet.
8. Costco
With over 700 warehouses across the world, Costco got its start in San Diego in an old airplane hanger. From there they became the first retail warehouse club. The store is known for their low prices, going all the way to stop supplying certain brands when their prices go up. In 2009 Costco announced it would no longer carry Coca-Cola products due to price increases. A month later Coca-Cola reduced their prices.
7. WinCo Foods
Based in Boise, Idaho, WinCo Foods is available to American shoppers in the western part of the United States. The store does not accept credit cards and does not bag your groceries for you.
6. Fry's
Located mainly in Arizona, Fry's Food and Drug Store is a branch of Kroger. There are currently 123 stores in the United States. It should not be confused with Fry's Electronics.
5. H-E-B
Here Everything's Better! The Texas chain is known to give 5% of its annual pre-tax earnings to charity. Additionally, the market donated $100,000 to Hurricane Harvey victims.
4. ALDI
This no-frills store specializes in providing staple items at low reasonable prices. At the beginning of the year, the company announced that they would be offering more organic choices.
3. Trader Joe's Market
Owned by Aldi, Trader Joe's prides itself on selling about 80% of their own name-brand items including Two-Buck Chuck and Trader Jose's. The store also has its own podcast to share new items.
2. Publix Super Markets
It's not an exaggeration that Floridians love their Publix stores. Known for their Pub Subs, the Florida chain is employee-owned and noted for their friendly cashiers.
