The Grammy winner has canceled his next three shows as he recovers, the outlet added.
"Lionel underwent a common procedure for Atrial fibrillation (AFib)," Richie's rep said in a statement to E! News Sept. 22. "The doctor said everything went perfectly. Lionel is doing great but will take some time off and will be back on stage soon."
AFib is the most common irregular heart rhythm. Although it is not life-threatening on its own, the disorder can lead to health complications. Symptoms include fatigue, dizziness, heart palpitations and shortness of breath.
Lionel Richie Cancels Concerts After Heart Procedure
Richie's upcoming concerts with Earth, Wind and Fire, previously set for Sept. 26 in San Francisco, Sept. 30 in Chicago and Oct. 2 in Columbus, Ohio, have been canceled.
The iconic singer has been hospitalized three times since June after experiencing heart problems during his ongoing tour.
The 77-year-old singer checked himself into the hospital in August after struggling to finish a concert in St. Louis.
During his performance in St. Louis, the "American Idol" judge appeared woozy and asked for a chair to sit down on during his final song.
Richie also fell ill during the opening concert of his 26-show tour in June, ending the Minnesota show early.
Richie was forced to sit down several times during the song, videos shared on social media showed.
"When you're feeling dizzy, sit your ass down," Richie told the crowd, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.
He went on to postpone two tour dates after seeing a doctor in the aftermath of the show.
The "Stuck on You Singer" shared an encouraging update with fans on July 4, stating that he was "doing well."
"Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love. I'm doing well, and I'm grateful for all of you," he said in an Instagram post. "Pittsburgh and Detroit were an absolute joy. The energy, the dancing, the faces in the crowd... we made real memories together. See you in Toronto. Let's party all night long!"
