Multiple children were injured after gunfire erupted at a public swimming pool in Stuttgart, Arkansas, prompting a major police response and leaving a community searching for answers.

The shooting occurred just before 5 p.m. on Saturday at the John Cain Aquatic Center, a popular recreational facility in the area.
According to police, three children suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to hospital for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that one of the victims sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. Details regarding the conditions of the other injured children have not been released.

Local law enforcement officers responded quickly to the scene. With assistance from the Arkansas County Sheriff's Office, they took a suspect into custody within minutes.

"At this time, no names will be released, as all parties involved are juveniles," the department's statement read. "The investigation remains active, and officers are continuing to gather information regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident."

A teenager who was at the pool when the gunfire erupted told KARK/Fox 16 that one of his friends was among those struck.
According to the teen, the injured child has since undergone surgery and is recovering well.
Meanwhile, a city employee told the station that the aquatic center is expected to remain closed for the rest of the week.
Stuttgart is a small city in eastern Arkansas located roughly an hour southeast of Little Rock.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing and more information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
