Back in August, the "Old Town Road" singer had a short hospital stay. He was then arrested. Four days later, he was charged with three counts of battery against a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. If convicted, he faces a five-year prison sentence.
Now, several months after the incident, Lil Nas X, whose legal name is Montero Hill, may have those charges dismissed. We have the details below.
Lil Nas X Returned to Court
On Monday, April 6, Lil Nas X appeared in court before Judge Alan Schneider in Los Angeles. PEOPLE reported that Schneider told the rapper that he "appears to be doing very well" and described the arrest as "aberrant from his normal conduct."
The star was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. His lawyer, Christy O'Connor, told the court that Lil Nas X voluntarily admitted himself to The Meadows in Arizona. She added that his two months of inpatient care were "absolutely successful."
The judge granted him entry into a mental health diversion program. He added that as long as Lil Nas X continues his treatment and stays out of legal trouble for the next two years, his case will be dismissed.
"When treated, he is much better off, and society is much better off," Schneider said.
"I'm thankful. Just very thankful," said Lil Nas X after the hearing. "It could have been much worse. [I'm] just going through the flow of life."
What Happened to Lil Nas X?
Back in August, a video was released showing Lil Nas X strolling down Ventura Boulevard at 4 a.m., wearing white briefs and cowboy boots.
The rapper placed a traffic cone on his head and sashayed down an imaginary catwalk. He told a driver to "come to the party." In another clip, he asked the person, "Didn't I tell you to put the phone down?"
Later that same morning, area residents reported to the Los Angeles Police Department that they saw a nude man walking in the road.
When police arrived, he reportedly punched an officer twice. At the time, sources stated it was unclear if Lil Nas X was under the influence or experiencing mental distress.
